Before You Register – Please Read! This course is an older MTS course and should only be taken by MTS students who did not complete the ME201-204 course series when the NEW MTS courses came out in September 2024. If you enrolled in an ME201 course in/after September 2024, you are taking the NEW courses and therefore you should not register for this course.  Instead, please enroll in the live, virtual courses listed here.  If you have any questions as to which course you should be taking, please reach out!

General Information

This NEW convenient format allows the learner to easily review and repeat any of the course lecture modules and/or assignments. This audio course provides students with convenient 24-7 online access to instructional modules via your "Education Dashboard" immediately following registration. 

This course consists of:

  • Narrated instructional modules;
  • Classwork and assignments;
  • Downloadable course handout materials (PDF);

Printed or hard copies are not provided to course registrants. Once the audio course and downloadable materials have been accessed, the course is no longer refundable.

The course and final exam must be completed within 90 days of purchase. The option to request an additional 90 day extension at education@appraisers.org is available (non-refundable fee is applicable). The final exam is multiple choice and securely administered online and remotely proctored. Additional final exam instructions are provided following registration.

ASA’s Valuing Machinery and Equipment: The Fundamentals of Appraising Machinery and Technical Assets 4th Ed is the authoritative textbook on the theory and methodology of appraising machinery, equipment, and technical assets. The 2020 edition includes revised and updated chapters on topics like the sales comparison approach, appraisal report writing, and valuations for financial reporting, completely rewritten chapters on topics like aircraft appraisals, and a new chapter on ad valorem tax appraisals. It also includes updated appendices with appraisal research sources, an enhanced index, and a wholly rewritten and improved glossary.

Course Description

This course will introduce more advanced concepts and techniques than those taught in ME201 and ME202. A review of case studies illustrating a range of operating entities will be employed. This course will explore exponential pricing techniques, cost estimation, reproduction vs. replacement costs, quantifying functional obsolescence, use of research data, time value of money calculations and more. A financial calculator (we recommend HP12C) is required.

·       Apply Cost Approach estimation using cost capacity exponents, trending, effective weighted age, and inutility calculations;

·       Introduction to leasing terminology with residual exercises;

·       A basic overview of Report Writing comparing USPAP with IVS, and our Code of Ethics
