ME159-WEB Fundamentals of Economic Life Development
This webinar provides an overview of the LifeCycle Process commonly used by economic life experts to objectively estimate the economic life of property, plant, and equipment. The student will be exposed to the two life analysis techniques most commonly used by economic life analyst: Actuarial Analysis - (e.g. Iowa Survivor Curves) commonly used to quantify physical depreciation and ordinary obsolescence; and Technology Substitution Analysis - typically used to quantify the abnormal or excessive obsolescence brought about by rapid technological advancement, government mandates, evolving/changing consumer expectations, as well as many other obsolescence drivers we have seen in recent years.
Upon webinar completion, the participant will be able to:
- Develop the LifeCycle curve(s) from an Iowa Survivor Curve;
- Develop the LifeCycle curve from a Technology Substitution Model;
- Combine two or more LifeCycle curves into a composite LifeCycle curve; and
- Develop the depreciation table from the LifeCycle curve(s) ― Develop the economic life for a class of property, ― Develop the remaining economic lives for each age of plant, ― Develop the percent good factors for each age of plant.
All analysts needing reliable estimates of economic lives and remaining economic lives will benefit from this class. Including appraisers of high-tech M&E, e.g. Communications, Computers, Medical Devices, or any field subject to rapid technological advancement; accountants; and life analysts who must contend with a future that will have a significantly different impacts than past experience would dictate.
