1900 -1950 was a fascinating period of jewelry design and evolution. We explore the influences that impacted these changes and the leading designers that influenced each movement. Appraisers, jewelry buyers and sellers are exposed to early 20th Century jewelry as well as 21st Century reproductions. By gaining context and understanding, you can accurately circa date and appraise the jewelry from this period.
Methods include lecture, visual PPT presentation and discussion.
Appraisers whether beginners or experienced will find this content applicable to their daily practice. Also valuable to jewelry stores, dealers, pawnbrokers and auctioneers.
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Socio-economic impact on jewelry design and fabrication from 1900 - 1950;
- Cultural and artistic influences on jewelry design;
- Recognize key motifs and successfully circa date jewelry from each design movement; and
- Understand the elements and construction of jewels from this period versus the early 21st century reproductions.
