Description
This course offers a thorough introduction to the fundamental principles and methodologies of equipment appraisal, tailored specifically for Equipment Managers. Participants will gain a deep understanding of the essential elements involved in appraising equipment, as well as the practical application of appraisal values in equipment management. The curriculum includes a step-by-step guide to developing a comprehensive assignment scope, ensuring that all critical components of an appraisal are properly addressed. Required Reading
ASA’s Valuing Machinery and Equipment: The Fundamentals of Appraising Machinery and Technical Assets 4th Ed is the authoritative textbook on the theory and methodology of appraising machinery, equipment, and technical assets. The 2020 edition includes revised and updated chapters on topics like the sales comparison approach, appraisal report writing, and valuations for financial reporting, completely rewritten chapters on topics like aircraft appraisals, and a new chapter on ad valorem tax appraisals. It also includes updated appendices with appraisal research sources, an enhanced index, and a wholly rewritten and improved glossary.

Attendance

Paul Cogley
Mr. Cogley recently retired from Banc of America Leasing (BAL), a unit of Bank of America, based in Providence, Rhode Island, USA., where he was Senior Vice President – Commercial Valuation Manager. Mr. Cogley managed a staff responsible for equipment valuation and residual setting for finance and leasing transactions, conducting annual Accounting Standard Codification (ASC) reviews for residual impairment, and performing collateral appraisals & inspections for the Commercial Middle Market and Business Banking segments of BAL.
Prior to joining BAL in 2005, Mr. Cogley was Principal of Capital Asset Services of Connecticut, LLC (CASCONN), providing equipment appraisal, inspection, remarketing and consulting services to the financial services industry. Prior to CASCONN, Mr. Cogley spent 29 years at General Electric and GE Capital in a variety of senior finance and equipment management positions.
Mr. Cogley previously served on the Equipment Leasing and Finance Association (ELFA) Equipment Management Committee as a Committee Member, Committee Chairman and Chairman of the annual Equipment Management Conference. He is currently active in the American Society of Appraisers where he is a course instructor and course developer. He also serves on the Board of Governors, is the Chairman of the International Education Committee and a member of the Machinery and Technical Specialties (MTS) Discipline Committee. Mr. Cogley previously served as Secretary and Treasurer of the MTS Discipline Committee, and Chairman of the MTS International Appraisers Conference Committee. He also served on the ASA Nominating and Awards Committee, the ASA Strategic Planning Committee and the ASA Budget and Finance Committee. Mr. Cogley received the Jerry F. Larkins Volunteer Service award from the ASA in 2020.
