Understanding the Audit Process for Testing Fair Value Estimates
Amanda Miller, Ph.D. | Managing Director, EY

Auditors are required to test fair value measurements and other estimates used in the Company’s financial statements. In addition, for many companies, auditors are required to test the company’s controls over the process for developing the estimate. When the audit is testing controls, it is important that management take ownership of the analysis – not doing so could lead to an internal control deficiency. Third-party valuation specialists need to be aware of these requirements and know how to work effectively with the core audit team and the auditor’s valuation specialists. This session will present an overview of the audit process and provide tips for helping clients ensure a smooth audit.
